      The First Amendment: Your Rights with Government Officials

      A discussion with civil rights attorney Sonia R. Jarvis and Jonathan Lee Gibson on what your rights are when interacting with government officials. A panel discussion followed by a public question and comment session. Sonia R. Jarvis, J.D.Sonia R. Jarvis is an accomplished civil rights attorney. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circut. In addition, she has been on the boards of numerous organizations including the Center for Public Integrity, Center for Responsive Politics, Center for Policy Alternatives, among others. She has served in a number of administrative positions including, most notably, as the Executive Director of the National Coalition on Black Voter Participation. She is Associate Professor, Ackerman Chair, at the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College and has taught at George Washington University, Rutgers University, Georgetown University Law Center, and Harvard University. She received her Juris Doctorate from Yale University. Jonathan Lee Gibson, M.P.A.Jonathan Lee Gibson is a resident of Elizabeth, NJ and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Public Policy at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is a frequent lecturer on race, class, and the socioeconomics of the criminal justice system and government. His research has addressed the social psychology of gun rights and control as a function of intergroup dominance and the historical antecedents of structural racism in America. He received his Bachelors Degree in Government and Psychology from Harvard University and a Masters of Public Administration from the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, Baruch College.
